One special topic for field propagation techniques in general is the minimization of the effect of the transversal boundaries. Uncared, they correspond to abrupt changes of the refractive index distribution, and back-reflections from the boundary into the computational domain do occur. After the obvious ansatz of absorbing BC, TBC " and PML indicate the major improvements so far, which eliminate the problem almost completely.

The Concise Guides address topics of special concern to psychiatrists in clinical practice. The books in this series contain a detailed table of contents, along with an index, tables, figures, and other charts for easy access. The books are designed to fit into a laboratory coat pocket or jacket pocket, which makes them a convenient source of information. References have been limited to those most relevant to the material presented. 

In Chapter 1, Antoinette Hamelin deals with the topic of characterization of the double layer at well-defined single-crystal faces of solid metals. She also gives valuable instructions for the preparation and characterization of single-crystal faces of known orientation and index which will be very useful to many workers in this field, especially those who are just entering it as novices or to those whose crystals are not always too accurately characterized Most of the work reported is concerned with crystal faces of gold and silver which this author has specialized in studying. It is her work in recent years that has taken experimental studies of doublelayer behavior well beyond the conventional area of research at liquid mercury. 

Information on progress in this important topic can be obtained from the publications (NBS Special Publications) of the annual Boulder Damage Symposia and the published Index of Papers of these symposia e.g. [114]. 

This book provides an update on recent advances in the field of ADP-ribosylation reactions. The individual chapters represent the synopses of contributions which were presented at the Seventh International Symposium on ADP-Ribosylation Reactions, held in Vitznau, Switzerland, from September 23 to 27, 1984. This volume covers new developments in the field since the last meeting was held on this topic in 1982, in Tokyo. Therefore, the present text is not meant to form a comprehensive account of a specialized research area, but encompasses a collection of state-of-the-art reports from the vast majority of laboratories currently involved in ADP-ribosylation work. For the sake of rapid publication, the editorial policy was to ensure easy accessibility of information contained in individual articles rather than to provide elaborate cross references or reference to work published prior to 1982. However, a detailed subject index will help the reader find complementary information. 

The special reviews deal in more detail with selected topics, often interpreting conflicting evidence, providing the reader with clear guidance. They are not restricted to literature published in the period covered by the volume. They are identified by the traditional prescription symbol and are printed in italics. This volume includes a Cumulative Index of the Special Reviews that were published in SEDA-11 to SEDA-33 and a list of the Special Reviews that appear in the current Annual.
