Sulfur can be effectively removed from a compound, organic or inorganic, by contact with Raney nickel. The action has been described by Aubry (118) as being noncatalytic in nature. One atom of sulfur is removed from sodium thiosulfate in the cold, yielding sodium sulfite from which the sulfur can be completely removed at 100°. Although sulfur can be completely removed from stannous sulfide, it can be only partially removed from antimony sulfide. Following are some of the inorganic compounds from which sulfur removal by use of Raney nickel has been observed (119). 

Foster Wheeler Development Corporation (FWDC) has designed a transportable transpiring wall supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) reactor to treat hazardous wastes. As water is subjected to temperatures and pressures above its critical point (374.2°C, 22.1 MPa), it exhibits properties that differ from both liquid water and steam. At the critical point, the liquid and vapor phases of water have the same density. When the critical point is exceeded, hydrogen bonding between water molecules is essentially stopped. Some organic compounds that are normally insoluble in liquid water become completely soluble (miscible in all proportions) in supercritical water. Some water-soluble inorganic compounds, such as salts, become insoluble in supercritical water. 

The four structural units (a)-(d) form the bases of the structures of numerous inorganic compounds in which the bonds are covalent or covalent-ionic. It is also convenient to represent diagrammatically, by means of 3-connected nets, the structures of certain crystals in which the structural units (which may be ions or molecules) form three hydrogen bonds. In the hydrates of some acids one H is associated with H2O to form H3O which is a unit of type (a). In certain hydroxy-compounds each OH group is involved in two hydrogen bonds, and accordingly a molecule of a dihydroxy-compound may be represented as at (e), it... 

Ultrasound has also been successfully employed for the production of novel inorganic compounds such as Si semiconductors in which case it is found that ultrasound increases yields of products and in some cases influences the reaction mechanism itself. For the traditional electrochemical process of metal electroplating the presence of ultrasound increases the thickness of the material deposited, as well as increasing the efficiency of the reaction. Ultrasound has also been successfully employed in the machining of complex electronic circuitry using electrochemical etching techniques. A majority of papers published in the literature still...
