The volume of the literature on plastics has become so great that the problem of knowing where to seek required information, even that relating only to properties and applications, has become rather complex. In addition to naming some standard sources of information, this paper has attempted to rate the periodical literature in accordance with an empirical scheme based on an analysis of recent literature. No claim to an exhaustive treatment of the subject is made, but it is hoped that this discussion and the appended bibliography will give some assistance to the searcher for technical data relating to the properties and applications of plastics. 

In addition to the cited references, a thematic bibliography with almost 5,000 entries is available. Here, bibliographic references have been collected for some 70 topics of general interest. These references are additional references to those already quoted in the main text of the book. Topics are listed in alphabetic order, from ADME properties to Wiener index . Selection of the topics was based on the most frequent keywords encountered in publications about molecular descriptors and related research fields. 

Analytical pyrolysis has been described in books ([512,539], cfr. also Bibliography), in many reviews [430,510,517,540-545], in bibliographies [530], and sustains a dedicated journal [546]. A special issue on analytical pyrolysis of synthetic and natural polymeric materials has just appeared [547]. Wampler [514] and Moldoveanu [499] have recently reviewed pyrolysis instrumentation and analysis. Several authors [530,540,548-561] reviewed analytical pyrolysis in polymer studies. The determination of inpolymer additives by flash pyrolysis techniques was reviewed [562,563]. Blazs6 [564] has recently reviewed development in analytical and applied pyrolysis. Yearly some 400 pyrolysis-related papers appear.
