Solution Processed Metal Oxides and Hybrid Metal Oxides... 

Indeed, it is practically mandatory to use ETL and HTL in organic optoelectronic devices because the interlayer can enhance the charge extraction and enable the use of a wider range of materials as electrodes. In this chapter, I will first discuss solution-processed metal oxides as ETL and HTL and then various hybrid metal oxide systems used to improve the performance of CTL further.

Although all the different solution-processed metal oxide based materials exhibit great potential for performance optimization and commercialization, there are still some limitations regarding optical, electrical, chemical and mechanical properties for each solution-process method and materials. Therefore additional research is required in the field of CTL development to improve the performance of the OSCs and OLEDs further. 

As can be seen in Table 11.1 there is a large variety of recombination layers. Typical materials used as n-type layers are solution-processed metal oxides such as ZnO nanoparticles, Li doped ZnO, ° and sol-gel TiO. . These metal oxides are sometimes functionalized with Cgo self-assembled monolayers (Cgo-SAMs) ° or PFN (Figure 11.10) to improve hole blocking.
