Solid state structures group 2 compounds

From the X-ray data of single crystals, it is possible to obtain information about the intermolecular interactions and the overlapping between the polar groups of neighbouring molecules. In Sects. 2.1.1, 2.1.2 and 2.1.3 the crystal structures of cyanobiphenyls were described. No cyano-phenyl overlapping of type 1 can be observed in the solid state of the compounds. 

We also performed a single-crystal X-ray structure analysis of this lead compound. The solid state structure of this compound depicted in Fig. 3-15 shows a half-boat-like ( sofa ) conformation with the 9-phenanthryl group in a quasi-axial or r/Mf/.v/-flagpole position, and the a, 3-unsaturated exocyclic ester in a s-cis conformation. This cleft-like conformation is advantageous for the creation of centers with a high recognition ability, since one enantiomer fits in better than the other thus leading to selectivity. 

The reaction of 2equiv. of a pyrrole-substituted cyclopentadiene with Zn[N(SiMe3)2]2 (Scheme 19) afforded the dicyclopentadienylzinc complex 23.52 A solid-state structure of this compound was not obtained, but room-temperature 1H NMR spectroscopic studies showed two equivalent cyclopentadienyl groups, whose signals broadened on cooling. 

M60 octahedra (see Fig. 4.28). The solid-state structure results from the packing of such groups. The inter-cluster distances are similar to those found in the metals. According to Simon, these compounds could be described as ([Rb902]5+, 5e ) and ([Csh03]5+, 5e ) with the five electrons donated to a conduction band, both inter-and intra-cluster metal-metal bonding, in agreement with the metallic conductivity of these compounds.
