Solid oxide fuel cells PEMFCs, working with

MTI and Catalytica are working together to develop compact fuel processors for use with PEMFCs and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). This system is designed to reform gasoline and Naval Distillate for PEMFCs. [Pg.137]

Among the fuel cells, the PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell or PEFC), AFC (Alkaline Fuel Cell), and PAFC (Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell) are run by and OH movements in the electrolyte. On the other hand, the MCFC (Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell) and SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) work with carbonate ions (COs ) and oxide ions (0 ), respectively. The acid (H" and base (OH ) generally run up to 200°C whereas carbonate and oxide ions run at over 600°C. Thus, the PEMFC, AFC, and PAFC have relatively low operating temperatures compared with the MCFC and SOFC. [Pg.219]
