Solid maximal substitution

It used to be postulated that the magnitude of the alpha-carbon KIE in an Sn2 reaction is an indication of the transition state symmetry. The expectation was that this KIE reaches maximal value for a symmetric transition state and drops back to unity for extremely early or late transition states. That expected behavior is marked by the solid line in Fig. 10.10. However, recent calculations of the nucleophilic substitution of chloride from methyl chloride by a broad variety of nucleophiles... [Pg.335]

A common goal of library synthesis is to maximize diversity around a core, so the synthetic route described above was extended to accommodate a variety of substituted aryl groups. The modified route is shown in Scheme 11. The solid-phase starting material was Rink amide resin,36 which had been loaded with y-bromocrotonic acid (attempts to load with other suitable fragments, such as fumaraldehydic acid, or the pentafluorophenol-activated ester, failed). Substituted ort o-iodoanilines could then be used to alkylate... [Pg.35]

The batch cycle with respect to imperforate bowls would most often substitute skimming for rinsing. As the solids settle against the bowl wall, there may be a clean liquid layer in the basket above the settled solids. To maximize cake dryness, the clear layer is taken off through a skimmer tube. There may be one or more feed and skim cycles before the cake solids are plowed out for discharge. [Pg.414]

Any structure may be constmcted for binary nanoclusters of platinum with transition metals of fourth or fifth row, while in accordance with material science solid solutions of substitution are easy formed. Our previous calculations [24 showed, that nanocluster forms, which are close to cubo-octahedral with 13 and 55 atoms, are the least nanoclusters with maximal internal energy, are the most stable ones and familiar to relatively quick theoretical study by 7)7 7 methods on PC. Besides, such nanoclusters are able to exist in experiments, for instance during LASER evaporating of platimun and deposition of particles with mass spectrometric calibration... [Pg.201]

Pyrolysis of biomass is carried out under inert atmosphere and forms, depending on the residence time and temperature, char, oil, and gas. Pyrolysis with long residence time at low temperamre (400°C) produces a black solid (charcoal), while fast pyrolysis at high temperarnre (500°C) favors the formation of a black liquor (bio-oil). The short contact times (<2s at ca. 500" C) thus maximize the liquid yield. Fast pyrolysis is preferred by the chemical industry because of the relative ease of handling liquids. However, bio-oil produced by pyrolysis of bulk biomass contains more than 400 different components like carboxylic acids, ketones, aldehydes, sugars, furans, (substituted) phenols, aromatics, and tar (Table 1). Separation of useful chemicals from this complex pool is very difficult. As an alternative, pyrolysis can also be used as a first step for generating heat or electricity, followed by combusting the pyrolytic products. Excellent papers and reviews that describe fast pyrolysis in more detail are available [27-32]. [Pg.376]
