Software for pavement management

A great number of software programs for pavement management have been developed ever since the introduction of MicroPaver, perhaps the first integrated software developed in the early 1970s and is still in use (MicroPAVER 2013). Even a brief description of each PMS software program developed is an impossible task. 

However, a catalogue of almost all PMS software programs developed in the United States from the public and private sector can be found in FHWA (2002) some of them are described and highlighted in Wolters et al. (2011). Similar PMS software programs have been developed in various other countries satisfying the requirements set by the agency. 

In the United Kingdom, the Highways Agency s road network is managed using the specially developed PMS known as HAPMS (Highways Agency 2014). 

In Greece, the first attempt to create a pavement maintenance software program was carried out in the early 1990s by the author and his research team. The program was known as PAVMAIN (Nikolaides et al. 1992). 

The same research team developed a mainframe PMS software program known as ROADMAN (Nikolaides and Evangelides 1995).
