Soda Dynamites

Soda Dynamites. Dynamites contg Na nitrate as the chief ingredient. The first formulations of this type were prepd in 1873 by the British Dynamite Co Ltd later to become Nobel s Explosives Co, Ltd). They contained 70—75% Na nitrate, about 15% NG and 7-17% paraffin and charcoal dust. Due to the high hygroscopi-city of Na nitrate, these expls were rejected by the Brit military authorities... [Pg.378]

Nobel-Aideer Powder. A Dynamite manufd in the early twentieth century by Nobel s Explosive Co, Ardeer, Scotland. It contd NG 31—34, kieselguhr 11-14, Epsom salt 47—51, K nitrate 4—6, soda 0.5 Amm carbonate 0.5% (Ref 1, p30)... [Pg.349]

Lignin is removed from wood by both the sulfate and soda paper pulp processes, and limited amts have been recovered from these sources and other wood waste. It has been used as a component of Dynamites, and has been nitrated... [Pg.573]

There are enough suppliers of this type of silicon, including, for instance, Dow-Coming, Dynamit Nobel, Shin-Etsu, Tokuyama Soda, Motorola, and Texas Instruments. A possible substitute for the silicon used to produce wafers is gallium arsenide, in which Rhone-Poulenc, ICI, and Shinetsu are already involved. [Pg.36]

Neudynamits. Austrian term for gelatin Dynamites. There were two types used (1) NG (gelatinized) 66.00, K nitrate 24.82, woodmeal 8.84 and soda 0.34% (2) NG (gelatinized) 45.00, K nitrate 40.15, cereal meal 14.30 and soda 0.55%... [Pg.208]

It is a composition of nitro-glycerine, wood-pulp, nitrate of soda, and carbonate of magnesia. This was the explosive used in the outrages committed in London, by the so-called "dynamiters." Different varieties contain from 20 to 75 per cent, of nitro-glycerine. [Pg.55]

Gelatine Dynamite is manufactured from nitro-glycerine and about 3 per cent collodion cotton by heating the former in copper pons with water at 97 up to 50" or 60", and then the nitro-cellulose is mixed in by hand. After an hour s heating, a syrup-like mass is formed with which the zumic powder, compo.sed of saltpetre, boring dust, and soda is amalgamated. B/... [Pg.122]

Finally, experimejrts have been made — apart from the proposals of filling the bore-holes with water, or putting the cartridges in cases filled with water or sand, in order thereby to avoid contact of the air with the explosive flame—mixing with dynamite soda crystals or sodium sulphate, tlic large amount of... [Pg.127]

These kinds are less certain than soda-weather dynamite, and in an explosion develop unpleasant... [Pg.128]

A drawbaek, however, of all these d3nnamites consists in the fact that through the addition of soda, that is, owing to the water of crystallisation in the soda having to be vaporized, the explosive action is somewhat lessened. Such dynamite might, therefore, be too expensive in eoinparison with ordinary strong dynamite, the use of which as a rule offers the same security. [Pg.129]
