A special issue (Volume 6) of the Bulletin de la Societi Chimique de France published in 1986 contained papers contributed to the Moissan symposium Abstracts of the papers presented at this symposium were published as a special volume (Volume 35) of the Journal of Fluorine Chemistry in 1987 A separate volume (Volume 54) of the Journal of Fluorine Chemistry was also issued in 1991 and contained abstracts of papers presented at the Thirteenth International Fluorine Symposium in Bochum, Germany...

Urszula Domahska has been professor. Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology since February 1995. She has been the Head of the Physical Chemistry Division since September 1991 and vice director of the Institute of Fundamental Chemistry (1988-1990). She had long-term scientific visits as visiting professor Laboratoire De Thermodynamique Ft D Analyse Chimique, University of Metz, France University of Turku, Finland Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry, University of Natal, South Africa Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, United States. Her interests have included such areas of physical chemistry as thermodynamics, especially thermodynamics of phase equilibria, VLE, LLE, SLE, high-pressure SLE, separation science, calorimetry, correlation and prediction of physical-chemical properties, and ionic liquids. She is a member of the Polish Chemical Society member of the Polish Association of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis member of lUPAC Commission on Solubility member of International Association of Chemical Thermodynamics and scientific advisor at the Journal of Chemical Engineering Data.

Bulletin de la societe chimique de France 14), This is the official journal of the French Chemical Society and is devoted to the field of pure chemistry. It has been published since 1858 and has gone through a number of variations in publication procedure. The Bulletin used to appear in alternate volumes of papers and abstracts with the Memoirs in odd-numbered volumes and the Documentation in even-numbered ones. Abstracts were started in 1863 and, for some years prior to 1930, abstracts of foreign papers were printed separately then all abstracts were combined in one volume. No abstracts of patents are included. Memoirs and Documentation sections were merged in 1946, and the Documentation section was discontinued in 1949. The Documentation part of this journal, up to 1949, is an important source of French abstracts in pure chemistry after this date, the Bulletin anolytique should be consulted.

This was also the era in which specialist professional societies in chemistry appeared—the Chemical Society of London, the Societ6 Chimique de Paris, and the Deutsche Chemische Gesellschaft. America was late on the scene. In 1876, the American Chemical Society was a local New York society. The ACS of today really came into existence in the 1890s, 50 years behind the Chemical Society of London. The emergence of professional learned societies led to the development of scholarly journals, funded by societies.
