Synthetic TRH is used as a diagnostic tool in in animals and in the human. There is a response of the secretion of TSH as well as of prolactin (van Lande-hem and van de Wiel 1979, Andreassen et al. 1980). Pituitary cells in culture respond readily to adding of TRH with the secretion both of TSH and prolactin (Queen et al. 1975, Haugh and Gautvik 1976, Tal et al. 1978, Snyder etal. 1978)... [Pg.358]

Experimental data in animals and studies of human cases of benzene intoxication indicate a link between the decrease in bone marrow cellularity and the development of leukemia. Many cases of benzene-induced leukemia appear to have been preceded by aplastic anemia (Toft et al. 1982). The compensatory response (regenerative hyperplasia) observed in the bone marrow, thymus, and spleen of exposed animals may play a role in the carcinogenic response (Rozen and Snyder 1985 Snyder 1987 Snyder and Koscis 1975 Snyder etal. 1984). [Pg.232]

For carotenoids, Andersson et al. (1991) have suggested that the E(ok - Og) term dominates the transition dipole term in determining k for the Sg( 1 Ag) —>82(1 B ) absorption. Although there is considerably less solvent effect information available for S,(2 Ag) ->S()(1 A ) transitions (See Snyder etal. (1985) fora... [Pg.142]

There appear to be two practical approaches utilised for method development by most separation scientists. The first approach is to rely on past experience of the confound or previous separations of a compound with a similar sttucture and then supplement this information with some information from the literature. This can usually lead to the development of some initial starting conditions. The alternative approach is usually to not consider the sample information and proceed directly to some generic starting conditions. Both of these approaches have been characterised by Snyder etal. [1] as theoretical for the former and empirical for the latter. Although both approaches have been shown to work, the optimum strategy for method development is quite often a combination of both approaches. [Pg.39]

The column is often called the heart of the HPLC separation process, and the availability of stable, high performance stationary phases and columns is critical to the development of mgged, reproducible and robust methods. Modem commercial columns can differ widely among suppliers and these differences can sometimes affect the development process of the desired HPLC method. Specifically, different columns can vary in terms of plate numbers (Af), retention characteristics (X) and resolution (i s). For these reasons, column and stationary phase manufactures have developed technologies to help ensure that these separation materials are produced in a more consistent and reproducible maimer. An excellent reference by Snyder etal. [1] provides a comprehensive overview of modem stationary phases and column technology. [Pg.45]
