Sloppiness

There is a fundamental difference between such scientific controversies and what simply can be called scientific fraud, i.e., deliberate falsification or fudging of data. Sloppy experimental work or data keeping can also lead to questionable or incorrect conclusions, and, although these violate established scientific standards and must be corrected (as they will), they do not necessarily represent deliberate fraud. In all this, the professor has a strict personal responsibility. As he/she is getting most of the recognition for the accomplishment of the research, it is only natural that he/she must also shoulder the responsibility for any mistakes, errors, or even falsifications. The main example presented will be the alkaline-hypohalite method as it is the easiest to acquire the necessary chemicals. It Is of interest to note that the alkaline-halide method is much easier to perform, process- wise, in that it is more forgiving of sloppy technique.

The actual electron density is —eP(r), but authors speak about / (r), which is strictly the electron number density, as if it were the same thing. I will follow this sloppy (but common) usage from time to time.

Before filing your application, you can go back as many times as you wish to correct or edit your answers. Online submission also means no trips to the post office and no postage fees. 

Whether you choose to submit by mail or not, remember that the appearance of your application makes a statement about you. In other words, neatness counts. The biggest drawback of the paper application is the potential for a sloppy presentation errors that are crossed out, smudges, typos corrected with globs of Wite-Out . You won t get points for neatness, but you can lose out if your essay, and application as a whole, are messy. 

Don t smudge anything with sloppy erasures. If your eraser is smudgy, ask the proctor for another.
