Skipped dosing

Never discontinue use of this drug except on the advice of the primary care provider. These drug control but do not cure hypertension. Skipping doses of the drug or voluntarily discontinuing the drug may cause severe, rebound hypertension.

Take a Medication Holiday. Some side effects are not a problem on a daily basis nonetheless, they can be qnite distnrbing. The best examples are sexual side effects of some antidepressants or the possible effects of stimulants upon the growth of children with ADHD. One approach has been to skip taking the medication for a brief period of time. For example, those with antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction have sometimes circnmvented this problem by skipping a single day s dose when they plan to have sex. In a similar fashion, parents concerned with the effects of stimulants on their child s growth may have their child skip doses on the week-... 

Space doses evenly around the clock, do not skip doses, and continue taking cefdi-toren for the full course of treatment...

The patient omits a scheduled dose. For example, if the prescription is twice daily , the patient often takes the medication once a day if the recommended dosage is one tablet daily, he often takes one tablet every second day. Again, the consequences of this frequent error are specific to each pharmaceutical product, varying according to the frequency and timing of skipped doses and the products forgiveness.

Because bacteria multiply rapidly—populations often double in 0.5 to 3.0 hours—it is important to institute antibiotic therapy as soon as possible. Thus, it often is desirable to initiate therapy with a double (loading) dose and then to follow this with smaller (maintenance) doses. To prevent relapse, the patient must be instructed not to skip doses and to take all of the medication provided, even though the presenting symptoms (e.g., diarrhea or fever) may resolve before the entire drug is taken. All too often, treatment failure and the emergence of resistance probably is caused by poor compliance or premature cessation of therapy by the patient.
