Skin care organic products

There is a large consumer demand for skin moisturisation in day care products. Skin care compositions, which contain a skin moisturiser in combination with a humectant, are found to be very effective in microemulsion formulations based on non-ionic surfactant in combination with siloxanes and organic oil [34]. [Pg.238]

Chitin. Chitin, the seeond most abundant organie compound, is similar to cellulose, exeept it is composed of Af-acetylglucosamine in a jS-(l,4) linkage. (The chitin structure can be recovered from Equation (A.3-2) by replacing the -OH at carbon-2 with an -NH-CO-CH3.) Because chitin is readily available and occurs naturally in many insects and marine organisms, it is a popular component of cosmetic and health-care products. The Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare approved chitosan as an ingredient for hair-care products in 1986, carboxymethylchitosan as skin-care product in 1987, and chitin non-woven fabric as skin substitute in 1988 [2]. [Pg.347]

In addition to the long standing uses of natural products in pharmaceuticals and herbal medicines, new developments in nutrition and cosmetics continue to provide new opportunities for cultivation of non-food crops. Providing the momentum for developments such as sweet gale is a strong customer drive for products derived from natural sources. This can be seen in the personal care sector in products from shampoo to skin care. The natural cosmetic market is believed to be near the lbilhon mark in Europe (Organic Monitor, 2006). UV filters enter the aquatic environment directly as a result of recreational activities when they are washed off from the skin, or indirectly through wastewater resulting from the use of personal care products, washing clothes, and industrial discharges. Residues of more polar organic UV filters have been found in all kinds... [Pg.37]

A technical grade of 2-aminobiphenyl obtainable from Columbia Organic Chemicals Co. is satisfactory. This black material contains the carcinogenic 4-isomer it should therefore be handled carefully to avoid contact with the skin. Purification of the amine by vacuum distillation removes the black impurities but does not improve either the yield or the quality of the final product. [Pg.69]

Solvented silicone systems may be hazardous with regard to health or fire. Further, primers are flammable and require care in handling. Methylchlorosilanes are flammable and corrosive because of the liberation of hydrochloric acid on hydrolysis other chlorosilanes are less flammable but are hazardous chemicals and can irritate the eyes, respiratory organs and skin. Protective gloves should be used. The material should not be allowed to make contact with the eyes or skin. Inhalation of vapours should be avoided especially in systems which evolve irritant by-products such as acetic acid or amines. [Pg.157]
