Single-sided boards

Here we are going to focus at different parts of the power supply shown in Figure 11-3 and detail a series of things we need to keep in mind. We are assuming this is a single-sided board. 

Most printed circuit board (PCB) production uses the subtractive process (41). In the simplest version, a thin copper foil is laminated to a nonconductor, holes are fabricated, and the unwanted copper etched off. These single-sided boards do not require plating. Known as print-and-etch, this version is used for the most simple printed circuit boards. 

FOR SINGLE-SIDED BOARDS. THERE IS NO SOLDER FILL OF THE THROUGH-HOLE IN THE PCB FOR DOUBLE-SIDED BOARDS, THETOP AND BOTTOM FILLETS ARE IDENTICAL... 

To shield the top side, the board would have to be broached to clear the surface-mount components. The bottom side shield can simply be a single-sided board (foil on the outside) brought up to the solder tabs. The board can be secured in place and bonded to the PCB (at least at the four comers). For greater shielding (see aperture leaki e), additional bonding is needed. 

Single-sided boards (SSBs) have circuitry on only one side of the board and are often referred to as print-and-etch boards because the etch resist is usually printed on by screen-printing techniques and the conductor pattern is them formed by chemically etching the exposed, and unwanted, copper foil. 

Single-Sided Board Fabrication Process. Given the emphasis on cost and low complexity, SSBs are generally produced in highly automated, conveyorized print-and-etch lines, using the following basic process flow.
