Single-component Materials

At the turn of this century it was realized that carrier generation was also possible between the HOMO and LUMO band even in neutral single-component materials assuming that there was a small HOMO-LUMO gap and conduction paths have been associated with the presence of large transverse intermolecular interactions. The most relevant examples of single-component molecular conductors are the mononuclear M(dithiolate)2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu, Au) complexes with... [Pg.115]

In add media, platinum appears to be the most efficient catal rst for the electrochemical oxidation of methanol. Indeed, other single component material showed very little catalytic activity. Most work, therefore, has been done to increase the catalytic activity and decrease the poisoning phenomena by modifying the surface nature of platinum. [Pg.193]

Liquid barrier dressing would preferably be a single component material that does not require catalysis or evaporation of a solvent... [Pg.2]

According to the phase rule, this should not be. A single component material should be either crystalline or amorphous at a given temperature, not both at the same time. Now all crystalline materials have defects, but we re not talking about grain boundaries here. Some polymers are barely 50% crystalline. Thus polymers had laid upon them the curse of not obeying thermodynamics, as Hoffman18 put it Of course, this invocation of the phase rule assumes the material can... [Pg.225]

Many ceramic powders are based on the precipitation of single component materials from solution. The example of AI2O3 has already been noted, but most of the high purity powders such as metal carbonates used in the electronic ceramics industry are prepared from soluble salts in solutions. High quality Fc203 powder, used by the pigment and magnetic ceramic industries, is prepared by precipitation from iron sulfate or chloride solutions. [Pg.36]

All the scattering expressions discussed above are relevant for single component materials. But most glasses are multicomponent materials and consist of several atoms with different scattering factors. In a material consisting of n different atoms, there are n n- )l2 pair correlation functions and each of them contribute to the observed scattering intensities. [Pg.149]

An essential basis for the study of boiling heat transfer is the thermodynamics of multiphase systems. Here, it is normal practice to consider systems at thermodynamic equilibrium, in which the temperature of the system is uniform. Of course, as we will see, departures from such thermodynamic equilibrium are important in many instances. In what follows, the thermodynamic equilibrium of a single-component material is first considered. In many applications of boiling (particularly in the process and petroleum industries), multicomponent mixtures (for example, mixtures of hydrocarbons or refrigerants) are important, and the subject of multicomponent equilibrium is dealt with in the final part of this section. [Pg.992]

The information provided in this Chapter can be divided into four parts 1. Introduction, 2. Thermodynamic theories of polymer blends, 3. Experimental methods, and 4. The characteristic thermodynamic parameters for polymer blends. Introduction presents the basic principles of the classical, equilibrium thermodynamics, describes behavior of the single component materials, then focuses on the two-component systems solutions and polymer blends. [Pg.193]
