Silver Coordination Polymers with Specific Topology

Polyrotaxanes can also be formed through interlocking coordination polymers, a typical example of which has been reported by Robson and coworkers.57 1,4-Bis (imidazol-l-yl-methyl)benzene (13) (Fig. 11.20b) coordinates with silver to give ID polymeric chains that are further knitted together to provide a 2D polyrotaxane (Fig. 11.22). 

6 SILVER COORDINATION POLYMERS WITH SPECIFIC TOPOLOGY 

An infinite ID complex [Ag( 14)( 15) with a single-stranded helical chain structure was obtained through the reaction of 6-amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (H-14) and 2-methylpyrazine (15) with Ag2CC 3.58 Furthermore, when tetra- and hexaethyleneglycol-spaced ligands, 1,1 l-(3,6,9-trioxaundecane)diyl-bis(nicotinate) (16) and l,17-(3,6,9,12,15-pentaoxaheptadecane)diyl-bis(nicotinate) (17), were reacted with silver salts, double-stranded helical complexes (as exhibited in Fig. 11.24) were formed.59 

To date, a number of different topologies have been reported for silver complexes with 3D structures, as listed in Table 11.1.9,63-75 The reaction of a silver-ammonia solution with 3,3, 5,5 -tetramethyl-4,4 -bipyrazole (H2-21) provides a polymeric complex Ag2(21) with a fourfold interpenetrated (10,3)-a framework structure.63 The complex [Ag4(22)2](N03)4-MeCN-2H20 with interpenetrating

In addition to the infinite tubes, polycatenanes, and polyrotaxanes, all of which are polymeric complexes, a great number of silver coordination polymers with ID, 2D and 3D framework structures have been reported more recently.
