Silver , ammine complex ions

Determination of Instability Constant.—Two methods have been mainly used for determining the instability constants of complex ions one involves the measurement of the e.m.f. s of suitable cells, which will be described in Chap. VII, and the other depends on solubility studies. The latter may be illustrated by reference to the silver-ammonia (argent-ammine) complex ion. If the formula of the complex is Agm(NH8)n , the... [Pg.173]

Abstract - The structures of aqua and ammine complexes of transition metals in aqueous solutions were determined by the X-ray diffraction method at 25°C. The structures of some ethy-lenediamine complexes were also studied under the same experimental conditions. All of the aqua complexes studied, except the silver(I) complex, have six water molecules in their first hydration sphere. Silver(I) ion has only two water molecules in the linear form. In ammoniacal aqueous solutions, zinc(II) ion combines with at most four ammonia molecules to form the tetrahedral complex. The tetraamminecopper(II) complex has two more water molecules at the apices of a distorted octahedron. [Pg.67]

Metal chlorides or nitrates were dissolved in ammoniacal aqueous solutions. Structures of ammine complexes thus formed of copper(II) (7), zinc(Il)(8), cadmium(II)(9) and silver(I)(3) ions were determined. [Pg.68]

Finally, P04 ions give a yellow precipitate of silver phosphate Ag3P04 in neutral medium. It is easily dissolved in ammonia by the formation of ammine complexes ... [Pg.567]

Of course, in ammonia, silver ions stand as ammine complexes. [Pg.726]

The essential difference between Liebig s and Deniges methods lies in the fact that the constants that govern the phenomena occurring in Deniges modification exhibit values different from those found in Liebig s titration since silver ions stand as ammine complexes, above all as the diamminesilver(I) complex. [Pg.759]

There is a great excess of ammonia relative to silver ions due to the previously known distribution diagram of the ammine complexes of silver, it is legitimate to consider that... [Pg.759]

As an example of the first kind of outer-sphere complex formation, Werner (44) studied the interaction of thiocyanato complexes of cobalt (Ill)ammines with silver ions. In these complexes nitrogen is bound to the metal, and the sulfur atom in the thiocyanate group is free to complex... [Pg.178]
