Silicon spheres

Silicon microstructures can be categorized according to the dimensionality of the confinement. Most PL studies deal with silicon structures confined in three dimensions such dot-like structures are designated zero-dimensional (OD). An overview of size-dependent properties of silicon spheres is given in Table 6.1. Standard methods of generating such microstructures are gas-phase synthesis [Di3, Li7, Scl2], plasma CVD [Ru2, Col, Ta8] or conventional chemical synthesis [Mal5]. [Pg.165]

This chapter opened with a photo of a nearly perfect silicon sphere that is being used to determine Avogadro s number. Use your Web browser to connect to http //chemistry.brookscole.com/skoogfac/. From the Chapter Resources Menu, choose Web Works. Locate the Chapter 4 section and click on the link to the Australian National Measurement Laboratory. Read the article on Avogadro s number and the silicon kilogram. EFFECT ON POLYMER AND/OR OTHER ADDITIVES Crosslinked silicone spheres have their biggest application in polypropylene films. They lower coefficient of friction and blocking force.
