Industrially Important Organo-Silicon Compounds, Nomenclature... [Pg.295]

Before discussing the chemistry and technology of silicone polymers it is necessary to consider the methods of nomenclature of the silicon compounds relevant to this chapter. The terminology used will be that adopted by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. [Pg.815]

Another point which needs to be clarified from the start is the nomenclature of metalated silanes We will frequently use the term silyl anion in this chapter when we talk about metalated silanes. Although the term anion defines, literally taken, an ionic compound, this expression, when used by us, does not necessarily imply that the compound in question is of ionic nature, but covers, as well, in analogy to the use of the term carbanion , silicon compounds with a polarized covalent silicon-metal bond. [Pg.780]

When silicon compounds were becoming more and more important, a gioup of chemists met to discuss the nomenclature problems involved. The purpose of the meeting is well stated in the preamble to the rules (13) which resulted from this and subsequent meetings. The purpose of the following rules is to provide one systematic and unique name for each of the simple organosilicon compounds and to guide in the selection of an accurate name for each of the more complex or polyfunctional compoimds of this nature. ... [Pg.62]

The nomenclature of boron compounds is now at about the same stage as was that of the silicon compounds when the silicon nomenclature was developed. An advisory committee of the Nomenclature Committee of the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry has been studying this problem (5) and expects to present a comprehensive report soon. [Pg.62]

Specific lUPAC nomenclature for organo-silicon compounds has not yet been developed. According to general lUPAC rules, the tetravalent compounds should be known as silanes and their ligands should be listed in alphabetical order and hydrogen should not be mentioned. [Pg.295]

Silicone compounds are generally referred to a nomenclature system, which gives a unique name to each type of substitution pattern around the silicon atom. If the methyl group (Me) is replaced with another substituent, the group on which the replacement occurs is given a (star). The following structure is typical of this nomenclature ... [Pg.287]

The nomenclature of organo-silicon compounds adopted by lUPAC is based on silane, SiH4, which has a clear resemblance to methane, CH4. Silicon hydrides of the type SiH2(SiH2) SiH2 are referred to as disilane, trisilane, tetrasilane etc., according to the number of silicon atoms present. [Pg.398]

The lUPAC nomenclature rules for polymers and definite silicone compounds are shown below with the common names in brackets [25]. [Pg.133]

The prefix sila- designates replacement of carbon by silicon in replacement nomenclature. Prefix names for radicals are formed analogously to those for the corresponding carbon-containing compounds. Thus silyl is used for SiH3—, silyene for —SiH2—, silylidyne for —SiH<, as well as trily, tetrayl, and so on for free valences(s) on ring structures. [Pg.37]
