Summary Ab initio calculated bond dissociation energies of silicon compounds will be discussed by means of atomic ionization energies and atomic orbital overlap. Ring strain energies of C- as well as Si-rings are estimated by homodesmotic reactions. The hybridization concept is critically examined in the case of silicon compounds. From the most important results a set of basic rules will be presented. [Pg.81]

It has been shown that hydrosilylation may not perform as ideally as is required when preparing co-olefinic silicone compounds from organic a,co-dienes and hydrosil(ox)anes isomerization is a concern and the chemical equivalence of the double bonds requires a large excess of the diene compound to achieve essentially monohydrosilylation. Further side reactions are discussed by Torres et al [9],... [Pg.255]

The alkali metal salts of the six-coordinate anion (61) may readily be prepared (equation 61) by using Si02 (or Si(OMe)4) as starting material, thus forming monomeric silicon compounds from the polymeric Si02 without the need for the isolation of elemental silicon. [Pg.4440]

The presence of carbon—fluorine bonds in organic polymers is known to characteristically impart polymer stabiUty and solvent resistance. The poly(fluorosibcones) are siloxane polymers with fluorinated organic substituents bonded to siUcon. Poly(fluorosibcones) have unique appHcations resulting from the combination provided by fluorine substitution into a siloxane polymer stmcture (see Silicon compounds, silicones). [Pg.399]

Flake Mica. Flake mica is mined from weathered and hard rock pegmatites, granodiorite, and schist and gneiss by conventional open-pit methods. In soft, residual material, dozers, shovels, scrapers, and front-end loaders are used to mine the ore. Often kaolin, quartz, and feldspar are recovered along with the mica (see also Clays Silicon compounds). [Pg.286]

Sihcone products dominate the pressure-sensitive adhesive release paper market, but other materials such as Quilon (E.I. du Pont de Nemours Co., Inc.), a Werner-type chromium complex, stearato chromic chloride [12768-56-8] are also used. Various base papers are used, including polyethylene-coated kraft as well as polymer substrates such as polyethylene or polyester film. Sihcone coatings that cross-link to form a film and also bond to the cellulose are used in various forms, such as solvent and solventless dispersions and emulsions. Technical requirements for the coated papers include good release, no contamination of the adhesive being protected, no blocking in roUs, good solvent holdout with respect to adhesives appHed from solvent, and good thermal and dimensional stabiUty (see Silicon COMPOUNDS, silicones). [Pg.102]

LiquidPha.se. The methyl chloride process with the widest use in the United States is the Hquid-phase methanol hydrochlorination process. SHicone producers use methyl chloride in its manufacture and produce an aqueous hydrochloric acid stream as a by-product. This by-product HCl is converted back to methyl chloride by hydrochlorination. In fact, it is possible to produce methyl chloride directiy from the chioromethylsilane hydrolysis step in the siHcone process (18,19) (see Silicon compounds, silicones). [Pg.514]

The five predictions for AHf(SiF4)—we were not able to model the reaction involving Sip2H2 due to the lack of an experimental AHf for that compound—also differ from one another quite substantially. Although one of them produces excellent agreement with experiment, the others differ from the observed value by up to 20 kcal-mol. Note also that some of the experimental AHf values for these silicon compounds have large uncertainties. [Pg.184]

Both acids form compounds of silicon as a result of attack on the network, silicon fluoride from hydrofluoric acid and silicyl phosphate from phosphoric acid. [Pg.880]
