Occasionally, granular silica (supplied either by the Ottawa Silica Co. or Fisher Scientific Co.) was added to the plutonium solution for various periods before centrifugation to determine its effect on the colloidal system. The silica was first dry sieved, washed thoroughly, then oven dried at 120 °C. the particle sizes ranged from 280 to 390p. Other chemicals used were reagent grade. [Pg.134]

One condition for obtaining an improved selectivity with the cycle operation is the presence of catalysts in which V sites are highly dispersed this was achieved by preparing vanadium oxide-silica co-gels, with a V2O5 content lower than 10% [77b,e]. The improvement in selectivity to propene was around 30 percentage points (60% selectivity in cyclic mode versus 30% in co-feed mode) for a propane conversion of 35%. [Pg.312]

Ottawa 20-30 mesh sand (0.60-0.85 mm ASTM designation C778), obtained from U S. Silica Co., Ottawa, IL, was used as the porous medium for column experiments and as the background medium for box studies. Low-permeability layers were packed within Ottawa 20-30 mesh sand in 2-D box studies. The rectangular layers consisted of a natural aquifer material obtained from Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, Michigan and F-70 sand (Ottawa 40-270 mesh) obtained from U.S. Silica Co. Table 1 summarizes relevant properties of the porous media used in the column and 2-D box experiments. [Pg.288]

For electrochemical detection, the particles used are composed of doped silica (Co(bpy)33+ as the doping agent) [35], iron/gold [36], polystyrene beads internally loaded with electroactive markers (ferrocene) [37] or gold [38],... [Pg.126]

Granular silica (crystalline quartz) and transparent silica plates (1 X 3 inches) were used for the sorption studies. The granular silica was supplied by the Ottawa Silica Co. and the Fisher Scientific Co. The silica was sized by dry-sieving with U. S. Standard sieves. In most cases, as narrow a range as possible was chosen, and the mean diameters, except where size was a variable, ranged from 275 to 387 microns. The transparent silica plates were fused silica with a smooth amorphous surface. [Pg.290]

Another classic work in the area of the solid-state NMR of dispersed metal systems is the work of Duncan and Zilm [ 100]. In this work CO was examined on samples of rhodium supported on a silica. CO adsorbs on oxide-supported transition metals in three forms linear, bridge-bonded, and multicarbonyls. As... [Pg.303]
