To extend the application of the Cochran- Zachariasen sign relation to more complex structures, in which the proportion of strong reflections is smaller, Cochran and Douglas (1955, 1957) have used an electronic digital computer to produce a number of alternative sets of signs, and to select the most probable ones on the basis of certain criteria. This expression for /-electrons can be derived using the phase relations established for isoscalar parts of factorized CFP with different parities of the seniority number [24]. It turned out [91] that phase (16.55) provides sign relations between the CFP in the tables for d- and /-electrons, but it is unsuitable for the p-electrons. If a correlation diagram is constructed by connecting reactant and product orbitals of equal symmetry that are localized in the same spatial region of the molecule and that show the same sign relations for the LCAO coefficients, crossings of correlation lines of equal symmetry may occur. The natural orbital correlations (Devaquet et al., 1978) obtained in this way are very similar to the intended correlations described earlier. The main difference is that in the first step the orbitals of the product are now not taken to be the AOs of the bond that is being broken, but rather MOs constructed from them. 

As discussed, increased blood or plasma lactate concentrations are usually caused by poor tissue perfusion in gastrointestinal diseases but may also result from acute renal failure, hepatic failure and anaerobic metabolism during endotoxemia. The clinical signs related to the disease causing the lactic acidosis are likely to overshadow the direct effects of the lactemia, such as decreased myocardial contractility (Yatani et al 1981).

The typical US pattern is similar in the presence of both of these neoplasms, with evidence of the bull s eye , target or pseudokidney sign related to eccentric and localised bowel wall thickening (Fig. 9.5).

Many signs related to safety include symbols that are independent of language. Not everyone understands symbols. Symbols are more effective if coupled with text information.
