Pyramid Volume = (area of base) X (altitude) lateral area of regular pyramid = V2 (perimeter of base) X (slant height) = V2 (number of sides) (length of one side) (slant height). [Pg.429]

The working volume ean be defined using Equation 13-12 or it ean be defined as related to the straight side length that it oeeupies. Making this expression in J equal to Equation 13-12 with eonstants as expressed by Equation 13-14 gives... [Pg.1049]

The exhaust flow rate influences the flow of the jets and some reports recommend a ratio of supply airflow rate to exhaust airflow rate of approximately 0.3. A ratio of 0.2 is unsteady and ratios larger than 0.4 have not been studied. In the cases that have been studied, the exhaust opening was 80 mm in diameter, the distance between the horizontal planes was 750 mm, the tubes were placed in a square w ith side length equal to 670 mm, and the inward angles of the jets were 10 degrees. This configuration resulted in better capture of hot gases than use of an exhaust system alone. [Pg.1007]

Hyer s results for various square laminate side lengths (length = vifidth) for a [02/902lx laminate are show/n in Figure 6-26. Three important cases exist ... [Pg.358]

If the side lengths are zero, i.e., for a very thick laminate, then a saddle shape exists at point S (saddle) w/ith = a and Ky =-b, wfhere a = b. As the side lengths increase, i.e., as the laminate becomes thinner, the saddle shape still exists, but tl curvature decreases in amplitude, i.e., the saddle gets more sh lowf. [Pg.358]

The MC method can be implemented by a modification of the classic Metropolis scheme [25,67]. The Markov chain is generated by a three-step sequence. The first step is identical to the classic Metropolis algorithm a randomly selected molecule i is displaced within a small cube of side length 26r centered on its original position... [Pg.25]

The special case where only rotators are present, Np = 0, is of particular interest for the analysis of molecular crystals and will be studied below. Here we note that in the other limit, where only spherical particles are present, Vf = 0, and where only symmetrical box elongations are considered with boxes of side length S, the corresponding measure in the partition function (X Qxp[—/3Ep S, r )], involving the random variable S, can be simplified considerably, resulting in the effective Hamiltonian... [Pg.95]

The three-dimensional structure of the sodium channel (from electric eel) was determined at 19-A resolution using cryo-electron microscopy and single-particle image analysis. The sodium channel has a bell-shaped outer surface of 135 A in height, 100 A in side length at the square bottom, and 65 A in diameter of the spherical top. An interesting finding is that there are several inner cavities connected to outer orifices. [Pg.1305]

The experiments of co-current upward air-water two-phase flow patterns in vertical triangular micro-channels were carried out by Zhao and Bi (2001a). Three equilateral triangular channels 270 mm in length, having side lengths of 5.0, 2.5, and 1.5 mm, corresponding to hydraulic diameters of 2.886,1.443, and 0.866 mm, were tested. [Pg.201]

This study could be extended to the synthesis of iron nanoparticles. Using Fe[N(SiMe3)2]2 as precursor and a mixture of HDA and oleic acid, spherical nanoparticles are initially formed as in the case of cobalt. However, a thermal treatment at 150 °C in the presence of H2 leads to coalescence of the particles into cubic particles of 7 nm side length. Furthermore, these particles self-organize into cubic super-structures (cubes of cubes Fig. ) [79]. The nanoparticles are very air-sensitive but consist of zerovalent iron as evidenced by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The fact that the spherical particles present at the early stage of the reaction coalesce into rods in the case of cobalt and cubes in the case of iron is attributed to the crystal structure of the metal particles hep for cobalt, bcc for iron. [Pg.255]

The model system is a periodic box of arbitrary unit side length.
