Shrinkage, resistance

The technique of graft copolymerization is used for the production of radiation-modified fabrics and fibers. The process consists of saturating the fabrics with vinyl monomers and then irradiating it in moist state with accelerated electrons. The fabrics thus produced have improved properties such as resistance to wrinkling and shrinkage, resistance to fire, color-fastness, good launderability, and dissipation of static charge. 

These adhesive systems give an excellent combination of static shear (at both room temperature and 70°C) and rolling ball tack along with excellent vinyl film shrinkage resistance. The results of these tests are summarized in Table III. 

In the textile Industry, the term finishing Is used to denote the application of chemicals exclusive of coloring agents to Impart certain esthetic effects such as drape, handle or wrinkle resistance and to affect physical properties such as resistance to shrinkage, resistance to seam slippage or soil and stain resistance.

Phosphonium salts are used as a source of ylids for alkene synthesis. Other applications include insecticides and fungicides [11]. If a shrinkage resistant transition alumina fiber is desired, sintering of the porous fiber should take place in a temperature range that is actually quite narrow for pure alumina. Thus, most commercially available transition alumina fibers are stabilized with oxide additives such as silica. The addition of silica (Figure 2b) considerably enlarges the apparent stability domain of transition aluminas, the formation of a-alumina being shifted to almost 1250°C for only 5 wt.% Si02 [34]. 

In consequence, the resistance of cogelled catalysts towards shrinkage induced by the capillary pressure makes them particularly attractive candidates for large-scale applications. Indeed, it allows the use of a standard evaporative drying which is much more easy and cheap to implement than the supercritical drying. That shrinkage resistance is a first remarkable property of cogelled catalysts. 

Permanent finish n. A term for various finishing treatments, chemical and/or mechanical, apphed to fabric so that it will retain certain properties, such as glaze of chintz, crispness of organdy, smoothness of cotton table damask, and crease, crush, and shrinkage resistance of many apparel fabrics during the normal period of wear and laundering. 

Kim et al. [15] showed that dne to cross-linking, gamma irradiation of polyethylene improved the thermal shrinkage resistance of polyethylene battery separation materials compared to the thermal shrinkage of unexposed separations. 

In order to limit shrinkage, resist formulations have been made vdth special monomers. For example, steric hindrance might be used. Another possibility is to include an oligomer or a polymer in the resist formulation as a binder [67], but one has to be careful not to prohibitively increase the resist viscosity.
