Shrinkage elimination

Tellurium-chilled kon has been used in mining, automotive, railroad, and other equipment. Tellurium used as a coating for molds and cores, so-called corewashes, eliminates troublesome localized shrinkage in castings. These corewashes may contain ca 25% tellurium the remainder consists mainly of siUca and some bentonite. [Pg.391]

Such reactions allow chain extension and/or cross-linking to occur without the elimination of small molecules such as water, i.e. they react by a rearrangement polymerisation type of reaction. In consequence these materials exhibit a lower curing shrinkage than many other types of thermosetting plastics. [Pg.744]

Sulfur mortars (mixture of sulfur and inert fillers with small amounts of organic plasticizers) are used for shrinkage mitigation and for eliminating thermal shocks for temperatures up to 80°C. These mortars have poor resistance to alkalis and nonpolar organic solvents. [Pg.104]

Shrinkage The transition from room temperature to a high processing temperature may decrease a plastic s density by up to 25 %. Cooling causes possible shrinkage (up to 3 % ) and may cause surface distortions or voiding with internal frozen strains. As discussed in other chapters, this situation can be reduced or eliminated by special techniques, such as controlled cooling under pressure. [Pg.453]

The linear shrinkage on drying is typically less than 2%, and on binder elimination and sintering less than 15%. [Pg.706]
