Hot tears and shrink holes Most solders shrink upon solidification, and this is true of SAC solder. This alloy is known to form microcracks (see Fig. 47.30) on its surface during the phase change from hquid to sohd. These cracks are called hot tears or shrink holes. They are generally benign as long as the crack is shallow (that is, the bottom of crack can be seen) and the crack neither extends to contact component lead nor PTH features (annular pad or barrel). [Pg.1113]

In the pressure holding phase the formation of ridges, the weight, dimensions, shrinkage, shrink holes and sink marks, and the orientation. [Pg.76]

If the test piece contains many holes, gas is indicated and the melt may be flushed with nitrogen to control this situation. SmaE amounts of deoxidi2er should be added to the gas-free melt untE shrinking of the test piece occurs. [Pg.248]

If the hub removal is necessary, such as required on compressor with non-split seals, a tapered hub fit on the shaft should be used. The removable hubs should have tapped puller holes. The shaft should be keyless with the preferred method of installation and removal by use of hydraulic dilation. Two injection ports 180° apart should be used whether injection is through the shaft or through the hub. Shrink fits should be 2 to 2.5 mil/in. of diameter. API 671 rcL ommends 1,5 mil/in. minimum, but experience indicates the heavier shrink may be required. For the juncture rating calculation, a f ra lion value of. 12 is recommended. [Pg.335]

In many cases supports are shaped into simple cylinders (1-5 mm in diameter and 10-20 mm in length) in an extrusion process. The support powder is mixed with binders and water to form a paste that is forced through small holes of the desired size and shape. The paste should be sufficiently stiff such that the ribbon of extmded material maintains its shape during drying and shrinking. When dried, the material is cut or broken into pieces of the desired length. Extrusion is also applied to make ceramic monoliths such as those used in automotive exhaust catalysts and in DeNOx reactors. [Pg.195]

Baking the polyester film at 200 C improved the planarity of the film profiles over the 20, 50 and 100 [Mi wide holes. These profiles were leveled better than those for the baked positive photoresist film. During baking, the polyester film shrinks less than the positive photoresist film and may also have either a lower viscosity and/or a longer, low viscosity flow period. [Pg.260]
