Shock Reactions of Carbon-Bearing Materials and Their Cosmochemical Significance 

Shock waves and carbon-bearing materials occur ubiquitously in the universe and the interaction between them is a common phenomenon. In the interaction, which we call shock reaction, the shock wave compresses and heats the carbonbearing materials, producing organic materials with compositions differing from those of the initial materials. We believe that the shock reaction is one of the most important reactions for the chemical evolution of organic materials in space.
