Some amino resins are used as additives to modify the properties of other materials. For example, a small amount of amino resin added to textile fabric imparts the familiar wash-and-wear quaUties to shirts and dresses. Automobile tires are strengthened by amino resins which improve the adhesion of mbber to tire cord (qv). A racing sailboat may have a better chance to win because the sails of Dacron polyester have been treated with an amino resin (1). Amino resins can improve the strength of paper even when it is wet. Molding compounds based on amino resins are used for parts of electrical devices, botde and jar caps, molded plastic dinnerware, and buttons. 

Pad-batch dyeing shows its primary benefits over other methods where it is possible to apply the dye on grey (unbleached) minimally prepared fabric, eg, T-shirts, followed by washing on the same perforated beam used to batch the fabric after dyeing. Where a bleached fabric base is needed, the bleaching is best carried out using peroxide by pad-batch technique in order to ensure an even effect and pick up when padding the dye Hquor. Similarly all other preparation is best carried out in open-width. 

Dehydrogenation processes in particular have been studied, with conversions in most cases well beyond thermodynamic equihbrium Ethane to ethylene, propane to propylene, water-gas shirt reaction CO -I- H9O CO9 + H9, ethylbenzene to styrene, cyclohexane to benzene, and others. Some hydrogenations and oxidations also show improvement in yields in the presence of catalytic membranes, although it is not obvious why the yields should be better since no separation is involved hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline, of cyclopentadiene to cyclopentene, of furfural to furfuryl alcohol, and so on oxidation of ethylene to acetaldehyde, of methanol to formaldehyde, and so on. 

Attach the collection device (filter cassette, charcoal tube, etc.) to the shirt collar or as close as practical to the nose and mouth of the employee). Employee exposure is that exposure which would occur if the employee were not using a respirator. The inlet should always be in a downward vertical position to avoid gross contamination. Some clothing item do values are listed in Table 5.4. For example, the do value of a person wearing a thin shirt, thin trousers, underwear, shoes, and socks estimated by this method would be 0,17 + 0.25 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 0.52 do. If the person were to add a T-shirt under the shirt, the clothing insulation would be expected to increase to 0.6 do.

Forty years ago, someone interested in owning a computer would have paid approximately 150,000 for 16 megabytes of random-access memory that would have occupied a volume the size of a small desk. Today, someone can buy eight times as much computer memory for 20 and fit the chips into their shirt pocket. The difference between then and now is due to improvements in photolithogmphy, the process by which integrated-circuit chips are made.
