Presently, the study of shape memory polyurethane (SMPU) has been widely conducted. For common elastic fibers, the elasticity should be defined as the instant recoverability of the length on release of the deforming stress. The recovery in shape memory fibers is the ability of deformed fibers to recover under external stimulus such as heat or chemicals. In this case, the external stimulus is a must. Figure 3.1 shows the net-points and switches which response to the stimulus (Hu et al., 2012). The elongation of shape memory polymer fiber are a little less than spandex, but mechanical... [Pg.55]

Due to the requirement of exact control of elastic yams in producing fabrics with repeatable stretch recovery and modulus, care should be taken to store the yams as close to the conditions of manufacturing as possible, particularly for spandex. Lycra, and XLA and shape memory fiber. Proper warping for the elastic yams is essential. Uniform tension and draft of yams are suggested for each package. All yam beams should be in an identical set with the same length of yams. [Pg.63]

New elastic fibers like comfort Lycra, XLA, polyester-based bicomponent fiber, and shape memory fibers provide a fit that is more relaxed than traditional spandex (Figure 3.10). Wearers feel less compressive force fighting against their movements in garments made of these fibers and blends than when wearing the same garment made with lower stretch textured yams and common spandex. [Pg.72]
