The Organizing Committee would like to thank all the participants, particularly the authors of the communications, the various session chairmen and the members of the panel on zeolites. Special thanks are due to the members of the Scientific Committee who accomplished the difficult task of selecting the communications and reviewing the papers. Their suggestions allowed us to improve the quality and presentation of the communications. Me would also like to thank all the members of the Laboratory of Catalysis in Organic Chemistry and the members of Atlas (the Association of postgraduate students and doctors of this laboratory) for their enthusiastic help. 

With rapid advances in carbohydrate chemistry, the interest in carbohydrate meetings has increased and biennial meetings appeared to be insufficient to meet the demand. A new series of meetings, restricted to Europe, started in Vienna in 1981 under the name of Eurocarb, was followed by one in Budapest in 1983. These meetings take place biennially in those years in which there is no International Carbohydrate Symposium in 2007 the location is Lubeck (Germany). They are modeled on the International Symposia and are controlled by the European Carbohydrate Organization, representing countries in Europe in which carbohydrate research is carried out. The participants are not exclusively European, for example, in Lisbon (2001) 21% of the plenary lecturers, 11% of the invited lecturers, and 24% of the session chairmen came from countries outside Europe. 

The session chairmen, Patrick L. Brezonik, Richard A. Carrigan, Edward J. Green, John M. G Plane, and Barrie F. Taylor, gave considerable time during the symposium. 

In conclusion, the organising committee wishes to express its most sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to the successful conclusion of this Fourth NEA Information Exchange Meeting on the Nuclear Production of Hydrogen. A special word of thanks goes to the authors, the members of the Technical Programme Committee, the members of the International Advisory Committee, the session chairmen and the panellists. 

The scope and quality of these contributions have made the symposium a milestone in chemical engineering computation and ensure that this volume will be of permanent significance to those involved or interested in this area. Both the papers and the symposium as a whole have benefitted substantially from the anonymous contributions of a large number of conscientious referees for whose efforts we are indebted. Finally, the organization and smooth functioning of the symposium as well as the successful assembly of this volume are in large part due to the commendable work of the following session chairmen D. A. Mellichamp and R. G. Rinker of the University of Califomia-Santa Barbara, G. Blau of Dow Chemical USA, and J. Zemaitis of OLI Systems, Inc. 

The Conference Committee would like to commend Robert F. Gould, Editor, Mrs. Colleen Stamm, Assistant Editor, and the staff of the Advances in Chemistry Series for their efficient handling of an unexpectedly large number of manuscripts and their outstanding job in the publication of the Preprints and these two final volumes. The cooperation and contributions of the authors, discussants, session chairmen, panel chairmen and panelists, and other participants are also gratefully acknowledged. 

As in any large undertaking such as this book, many people are involved. Expressions of thanks and appreciation go to many who helped plan the individual sessions, the session chairmen. Each of the authors deserves thanks for contributing to the individual presentations and to the further revisions that led to the chapters in this book. Thanks also go to the many reviewers who read and commented on the manuscripts to bring out additional points for the clarity and improved quality of the manuscripts. The American Chemical Society staff have been very helpful in their many ways. 

The s)nnposium programme was prepared by the members of central and local committees. The editors wish to recognize members of all ISOPOW 9 committees and session chairmen for their considerable efforts in the evaluation of papers and for their help in the organization. All local arrangements were the responsibility of the local committee. 

I thank the session chairmen of the symposium—D. Dowson, D. H. Buckley, and N. S. Eiss, Jr.—and the authors of this volume for their valuable contributions. 

We also like to acknowledge the work of all session Chairmen,the financial help of the CNR, Laben and CREASO and the help of the local staff at the Europa Palce Hotel in Anacapri, where the meeting took place.

As Chairman of the Symposium, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our contributors their names and biographies are at the end of this volume. And, I thank Session Chairmen Dr. L. H. Allen and Ms. Nancy MacDonald in typing the entire Proceedings in a camera-ready format.
