Service science measures

Analytical chemistry can be viewed from two perspectives the insider sees the subject as a science in its own right, where applied physics, math, and chemistry join hands to make measurements happen in a reliable and representative way the outsider might see the service maid that without further effort yields accurate results that will bring glory to some higher project. 

The major evaporation inputs are temperature, relative humidity, velocity, and evaporation rate. The evaporation rate is estimated from mathematical models for complex mixtures, solutions, or suspensions, it is measured. The Forest Service sponsored a project at Colorado State University s Aerosol Sciences Laboratory to develop a laboratory method to measure droplet evaporation rate.

On November 18-20, 1998, a workshop on Scientific Issues Relevant to the Assessment of Health Effects from Exposure to Methylmercury was conducted in Raleigh, North Carolina. The workshop was jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and ATSDR. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss and evaluate the major epidemiologic studies that associated methylmercury exposure and the results of an array of developmental measures in children. These studies monitored and evaluated exposed populations in Iraq, the Seychelles Islands, the Faroe Islands, and the Amazon River Basin. A number of animal studies were also considered in support of a human health risk assessment. 

Medicine is an art and a science in the service of fellow human beings. To improve the health of their patients, physicians (1) collect empirical data, (2) interpret these data using scientific laiowledge and professional experience, (3) make decisions concerning diagnoses, (4) recommend preventive measures, and (5) execute therapeutic actions. There is a fundamental limitation in this activity as absolute health does not exist. Health is necessarily a relative concept. ... 

Patient satisfaction is a commonly used measure to help assess how well healthcare providers are meeting the needs of their patients. Donebedian states that satisfying patients is one important indicator of quality care, because it demonstrates the ability of the provider to meet expectations and values of the patient. Industry reports on managed care organizations include patient satisfaction as one measure of service quality.However, the science of measuring patient satisfaction is yet in its infancy. 

Generic distributed graphical interfaces need to be designed and used together with Web services. Some functionalities from popular software in e-science such as Matlab or LabVlEW for real-time data acquisition with measurement instruments can also provide effective solutions while meeting the requirements of a collaborative remote laboratory platform in CZM where research can be planned to extend the platform in a grid as discussed by Saliah-Hassane [11]... 

Popularity was measured by the number of listener requests for scripts or free bulletins. In the late 1920s, listeners consistently preferred either the annual forecasts of science to come or information about poison ivy treatments by the early 1930s, listeners were asking for scripts and bulletins on the same topics being emphasized in the Daily Mail Report stories - medicine, psychology, and engineering. 36 By September 1929, Science Service s 15-minute news and interview program (called either Radio Talks or Science Service Series in the schedules) had proved to be so successful that it was broadcast from the CBS station in New York City and over thirty network affiliates.37...
