Sensitization of New Born Guinea Pigs Small Subcorneal Vesicles

This description of human eczema by Lever (1961) corresponds to the description of the bullae and vesicles observed in the eczema of the guinea pig s nipple. 

In 4 adult guinea pigs strongly sensitized by our usual procedure, we noted some small subcorneal vesicles like those described by Unna (1894) and Civatte (1925). 

We then re-examined the histological preparations of the 70 guinea pigs sensitized to DNCB and tested in the usual manner we found no small subcorneal vesicles either on the flank or on the nipple. Hence, these small vesicles are rare in the eczema of the adult guinea pig. On the other hand, we have seen them rather frequently in new-born sensitized guinea pigs. (Fig. 15). 

The infiltrate is composed of lymphocytes and especially lymphocytes which invade certain parts of the epidermis and are thus found in spongiosis. In the vesicles, there are leucocytes and lymphocytes, but we detected very few, if any, eosinophilic leucocytes.
