Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a self-help organization for people whose common goal is recovery from alcoholism, and it is the most widely accessed resource for individuals with alcohol problems (McCrady and Miller 1993). The philosophy is based on the concept of alcoholism as a chronic disease that cannot be cured, but one that can be halted by means of complete abstinence. AA has described 12 principles or steps to guide those in recovery. Twelve-step facilitation, a manual-based psychotherapy to promote AA participation (Nowinski et al. 1992), was equally efficacious, compared with cognitive-behavioral and motivational enhancement therapies, in a large study of treatments for alcohol dependence (Project Match Research Group, 1997). [Pg.349]

Referring to the maintenance and troubleshooting sections of an instrument s manual is highly recommended. Many individuals consult manuals only after a catastrophic failure and then only when all other problem-solving approaches have been exhausted. This Solutions Manual accompanies Inorganic Chemistry. Sixth Edition by Duward Shriver, Mark Weller, Tina Overton, Jonathan Rourke, and Fraser Armstrong. Within its covers, you will find the detailed solutions for all self-tests and end of chapter exercises. New to this edition of the Solutions Manual is the inclusion of guidelines for the selected tutorial problems—those problems for which the literature reference is not provided—for the majority of chapters. Many solutions include figures specifically prepared for the solution, and not found in the main text. As you master each chapter in Inorganic Chemistry, this manual will help you not only to confirm your answers and understanding but also to expand the material covered in the textbook. [Pg.245]
