Section longitudinal

On testing pro pints, each sample should contain as many whole grains. as possible but, if the grains ate too large, they should be sectioned longitudinally... [Pg.713]

Paraffin blocks are trimmed with a scalpel, a razor blade, or a hot spatula and mounted on wooden or fiber blocks. While being sectioned, longitudinal block edges must be parallel to the knife edge to obtain a ribbon. Paraffin sections of any thickness show compression, which is usually relieved when they are floated on a glass slide and dried. [Pg.66]

During the stretching of tubular films, as discussed in the previous section, longitudinal and transverse stretching are usually carried out simultaneously. This is also possible in flat-film stretching by means of a tenter frame. [Pg.432]

Use now this equation to describe liquid film flow in conical capillary. Let us pass to spherical coordinate system with the origin coinciding with conical channel s top (fig. 3). It means that instead of longitudinal coordinate z we shall use radial one r. Using (6) we can derive the total flow rate Q, multiplying specific flow rate by the length of cross section ... [Pg.617]

This decomposition into a longitudinal and a hansverse part, as will be discussed in Section III, plays a crucial role in going to a diabatic representation in which this singularity is completely removed. In addition, the presence of the first derivative gradient term W l Rx) Vr x (Rx) in Eq. (15), even for a nonsingular Wi i (Rx) (e.g., for avoided intersections), introduces numerical inefficiencies in the solution of that equation. [Pg.187]

The cavity of a laser may resonate in various ways during the process of generation of radiation. The cavity, which we can regard as a rectangular box with a square cross-section, has modes of oscillation, referred to as cavity modes, which are of two types, transverse and axial (or longitudinal). These are, respectively, normal to and along the direction of propagation of the laser radiation. [Pg.341]

It is difficult to determine the cross-sectional area of a fiber. Direct observation and measurement of a cross section under a microscope is the most accurate method (15). This is a destmctive test that does not allow subsequent study of fiber mechanical properties, and is slow and tedious. Also, it does not take into account any variations in the cross-sectional area along the fiber length. Measurement of fiber diameters from microscopic observations of longitudinal views is somewhat easier, but the eUipticity of the cross section in certain fibers can lead to serious errors. [Pg.269]

Two sections of steel condenser tubing experienced considerable metal loss from internal surfaces. An old section contained a perforation the newer section had not failed. A stratified oxide and deposit layer overlaid all internal surfaces (Fig. 5.14). Corrosion was severe along a longitudinal weld seam in the older section (Fig. 5.15). Differential oxygen concentration cells operated beneath the heavy accumulation of corrosion products and deposits. The older tube perforated along a weld seam. [Pg.113]
