Two-stage screw

It is important that no moisture or oil passes through the compressor and on to the blasted surface. Use a white rag to determine the quality. A black light may also be used to determine oil contamination. One hundred percent oil-free air can be supplied by rotary screw, two stage lubrication-oil-free compressors. 

The Dynamit-Nobel extmsion process (252) utilizes a volatile plasticizer such as acetone which is injected into the decompression section of a two-stage screw and is uniformly dispersed in the vinyl resin containing a stabilizer. The resulting PVC foam has low density and closed cells. 

The typical rotary screw compressor stage is made up of two rotating shafts, or screws. One is a female rotor and the other a male rotor. These two rotating components turn counter to one another (counterrotating). The two rotating elements are designed so that as they rotate opposite to one another their respective helix forms intermesh (see Figure 3-78). As with all rotary compressors, there are no valves. The gas is sucked into the inlet post and is squeezed between the male and female... 

For installations which might be very sensitive to accumulations of oil, a two-stage oil separator can be fitted. The second stage cools the gas to just above condensing temperature, and up to 99.7% of the entrained oil can be removed. Even so, a small quantity will be carried over. Sliding vane and screw compressors mayhave extra oil injected into the casing to assist with sealing, and this must be separated out and re-cooled. 

There are several techniques available for SFA to drive a sample along the normal direction and to position it to a specified site. A common feature of these techniques is to employ a multi-stage driving system of increasing sensitivity. The apparatus developed by Israelachivili s team, for example, uses a two-stage screw as the coarse and medium control, which gives positioning accuracy of 1 /rm and 1 nm.

For example, if a two-stage vented extruder has a screw that was designed for resins with an Mi range of 2 to 20 dg/min, and plant personnel are asked to manufacture a resin with an MI of 100 dg/min, the extruder may not process the resin acceptably. For this case and flood feeding, the extruder is likely to have resin flowing into the vent because the first stage can deliver more resin than the second stage can pump. One practical solution to this problem is to operate the slide valve in a partially open manner such that it controls the rate of the extrusion process. This will allow the extruder to operate at a lower specific rate and allow operation without the flow of resin into the vent.
