Set-screws and retainers must be in place and tightened to manufacturer s specifications. [Pg.998]

A portion of each solution was retained for analysis of carb-oxylate content at zero time. Samples of the polymer solutions were weighed into glass jars, the pH adjusted to 8.5 and the jars were sealed with tightly fitting screw caps. The jars were placed in thermostatted ovens at 90°, 108°, and 120°C. After the appropriate time, the jars were removed, cooled and weighed to ensure no loss of contents, prior to analysis for hydrolysis. [Pg.109]

The biomass is fed overbed through multiple feed chutes using air jets to help distribute the fuel over the surface of the bed. Variable-speed screw conveyors are usually used to meter the fuel feed rate and control steam output. Feedstocks such as bark and waste wood are chipped to a top size of 25 mm (1 in) to ensure complete combustion. The bed usually consists of sand around 1 m (3 ft) deep. This serves to retain the fuel in the furnace, extending its in-furnace residence time and increasing combustion efficiency. It also provides a heat sink to help maintain bed temperature during periods of fluctuating fuel moisture content. [Pg.39]

Procedure. Weigh 20 g of air-dry soil sieved to 2 mm into a 250-ml wide-mouth high-density polyethylene screw-cap bottle. The square type bottles fit best the square box of the reciprocating shaker. Add 100 ml 1 M KCI and shake for 15 min. Transfer all the suspension to a filter funnel holding a Whatman No. 6 paper, and collect the filtrate. When leaching has ceased, add two successive 50-ml aliquots of 1 M KCI. Combine the leachates from the total addition of 200 ml (some will be retained in the soil) and mix. [Pg.66]

The processes for defecating tho juice of tho beetroot, are bo analogous to those already described with the juice of the cone as to need no special description. The scum i b submitted to pressure In a screw press, in order to separate the juice which it retains mechanically. [Pg.999]
