Screw feeder response

Using the procedure described above, input a step change of the tracer to the hopper and then measure the response of the screw feeder to the step change as a known function of time, which is used as the input signal to the following impinging stream device for the measurement of RTD. [Pg.79]

It is clear that the response of the screw feeder to the step change of the tracer depends on the rotary speed of the screw. For convenience, the responses at various rotary speeds are calibrated prior to the experimental measurements as the curves of the tracer concentration versus time, which represent the responses as known functions of time. For each rotary speed, the calibration was carried out two or three times, and the data were averaged. [Pg.80]

Roller presses that are used for the compaction offertilizers (Fig. 6.6-16) feature selfaligning roller bearings, optimally sized steel bearing blocks, and a hydraulic pressurizing system with proprietary functions and hydraulic accumulators. The latter allow adjustment of the pressure-response characteristic and provide for overload protection. While in some cases simple gravity feeders with flow control baffles are provided, most applications require one or more screw feeder(s) with variable (e.g., hydraulic) speed drives to force the material to be compacted into the nip between the rollers [B.48, B.97]. [Pg.668]

Note It is not practical to expect any screw feeder to handle a bulk material in an undefined range of conditions. For example, what if the material freezes, contains foreign bodies, cakes, or goes off in any way Unless the bounds of variation can be defined, the user is normally best able to assess the limits of product condition that may be presented to the feeder, but this does not mean that he accepts responsibility for performance of the equipment. In practice the user will have less understanding of the sensitive features of screw feeder behaviour. There is a need for an open exchange of information and pre-contract agreement as to the basis on which the feeder is expected to perform. [Pg.154]
