Scratching operations

If operating procedures need to be developed from scratch, this could account for a considerable portion of the pre-startup work. If current, valid standard operating procedures exist, and the toll is only introducing a new set of batch instructions, the task becomes simpler. However, it is recommended that the new batch instructions are reviewed simultaneously with the existing startup, shutdown, normal and emergency operating procedures for the equipment to help ensure potential process deviations are examined and addressed. [Pg.86]

C. 1,2,3-Benzothiadiazole 1,1-dioxide. Caution 1,2,3-Benzo-thiadiazole 1,1-dioxide in the solid slate can explode spontaneously, particularly on being warmed, jolted, or scratched. For most purposes it need not be isolated, but can be used in solutions, which are relatively safe. Any operations involving the solid material should be done very carefully, using good shielding. [Pg.6]

Colorability is another reason IDs select plastics for many products. Molding color into a product eliminates finishing and painting operations, thus reducing costs. Beyond cost, integral color also masks the nicks, chips and scratches that impair appearance during the life of the product. Color effects are almost limitless. Transparent, translucent, pearlescent, fluorescent, or marbleized colors are readily available for use in plastics. [Pg.16]

Plastic s main disadvantages are its lower scratch resistance and, in some systems, comparative intolerance to severe temperature fluctuations. Even if plastic does have less temperature tolerance than glass, most optical systems do not operate in ambient temperatures beyond the thermal limits of plastics or the human body. [Pg.230]

Gas-liquid-particle operations represent efficient tools or building blocks for the chemical engineer, and it seems likely that their application will spread. Progress in this direction will depend, in part, on the continuation and extension of investigations of the types reviewed in this paper. It may be said that the research carried out to date has only scratched the surface of this subject. [Pg.131]

Polishing is an abrading operation used to remove or smooth out surface defects (scratches, pits, tool marks, etc.) that adversely affect the appearance or function of a part. The operation usually referred to as buffing is included in the polishing operation. [Pg.345]

The final quality and reproducibility of rubber compounds mixed from scratch on a two-roll mill, or finalisation of compound batches mixed in an internal mixer, depend to a large degree on the skill of the mill operative. In order to overcome to some extent the reliance on operative skill and to ensure reproducible mix quality many mills are now fitted with stock blender units. These consist of a driven twin roller system, of similar overall length to the mill rolls, fitted above the mill frame. [Pg.196]

Here, L is a lower triangular matrix (not to be confused with L, the Cholesky factor of the matrix of nonlinear parameters A ), and D is a diagonal matrix. The scheme of the solution of the generalized symmetric eigenvalue problem above has proven to be very efficient and accurate in numerous calculations. But the main advantage of this scheme is revealed when one has to routinely solve the secular equation with only one row and one column of matrices H and S changed. In this case, the update of factorization (117) requires only oc arithmetic operations while, in general, the solution from scratch needs oc operations. [Pg.417]

The chemical engineer usually encounters an existing reactor that may have been built decades ago, has been modified repeatedly, and operates far from the conditions of initial design. Very seldom does an engineer have the opportunity to design a reactor from scratch. Basically, the typical tasks of the chemical engineer are to... [Pg.6]
