Score tests

Make sure your stratification variable appears first and your ordinal response variable appears last so that your stratification is properly applied and so that your row mean score test will be meaningful. [Pg.254]

One of the most sensitive and easily scored tests of chromosomal response to some chemicals involves sister chromatid exchange (SCE).52 229 231 501 502 Many mutagens cause an increase in SCE, generally at exposures much lower than required for chromosomal aberrations. An apparent advantage of SCE as a test system is the sensitivity. Using x-ray exposure, Evans and Vijayalaxmi118 observed 30 SCEs for each chromosomal aberration induced. The mechanism of SCE is not fully understood, but it involves long-term... [Pg.192]

The brewer and his customer make a subjective assessment of beer flavour each time they taste but for a more objective appraisal it is usually desirable to submit the beer, with suitable controls, to a taste panel. Taste panels may be used to (/) select qualified judges, (//) correlate sensory with chemical and physical measurements, (Hi) study processing effects, maintain quality, evaluate raw material selection, establish storage stability, and reduce costs, (fv) evaluate quality, and (v) determine consumer reaction [Ij. The types of test used include (/) difference tests, (ii) rank order, (Hi) scoring tests, (iv) descriptive tests, (v) hedonic scaling, and (v/) acceptance and preference tests [1]. Difference tests are most commonly used in the brewing industry, the results of which are readily analysed by statistics. Several forms of difference test are used. The A-not-A form of test is perhaps the simplest. Assessors are first familiarized with a standard A and then presented, in a random manner, either with A again or with the comparative sample B. In the paired-comparison test two samples are presented simultaneously (AA, AB, BA, or BB) and assessors report either there is a difference or there is no difference . [Pg.475]

Other investigators use the Z score as an additional filter or as the primary filter [18,52,4,6], and we foUow their steps. The novelty in the present protocol is the combined use of global and local Z scores to assess the accuracy of the prediction. This filtering mechanism was found to provide improved discrimination as compared with a single Z score test. [Pg.108]

A study of Ascher (1990) has shown that the score test proposed by Cox and Oakes (1984) seem to be the best one for testing exponentiality against general alternatives. In fact, the Cox and Oakes test is a score test it tests in the Weibull model for the shape parameter being 1. That means exponentiality since a Weibull distribution with shape parameter one is an exponential distribution. [Pg.1637]
