Sandstone main sources

By far the most important ores of iron come from Precambrian banded iron formations (BIF), which are essentially chemical sediments of alternating siliceous and iron-rich bands. The most notable occurrences are those at Hamersley in Australia, Lake Superior in USA and Canada, Transvaal in South Africa, and Bihar and Karnataka in India. The important manganese deposits of the world are associated with sedimentary deposits the manganese nodules on the ocean floor are also chemically precipitated from solutions. Phosphorites, the main source of phosphates, are special types of sedimentary deposits formed under marine conditions. Bedded iron sulfide deposits are formed by sulfate reducing bacteria in sedimentary environments. Similarly uranium-vanadium in sandstone-type uranium deposits and stratiform lead and zinc concentrations associated with carbonate rocks owe their origin to syngenetic chemical precipitation. [Pg.49]

Optimum parameters for a successful accomplishment of the EOR process are defined in [239]. First, they can be realized in reservoirs consisting of sandstones, sands, carbonates or mixtures of these materials with a layer thickness of under 25 m and permeability of over 20 mD, containing crude oil with a viscosity of <60 mPa s. In this case, a formulation containing, along with alkali, 20 - 30 g/1 salts, ethoxysulphates and alkyl sulfonates, used for injection at a temperature below 80 °C. The authors are optimistic about the wide commercial use of EOR, since oil will remain the main energy source up to the second half of the 21 century. Surfactants can also be used to recover oil containing gas for the purpose of gas hydrate formation control [240]. [Pg.578]

According to the actual situation, first of all, the water chemistry model (or library of the water sample) of a mine, or an area (for example, Lu an Group s mine), or water source in China s mine is established. The water sources in China s are mainly sandstone water, water in Ordovician limestone, the water in Tai limestone, the water in old lane and the cavity mined. [Pg.180]

Elevation detail on sandstone of Lyttle s Warehouse, Victoria St, Belfast (1866-7). A uniform black crust is observed, but is noticeably more severe along mortared joints. These are a potential calcium source for reaction with sulphur pollution to form gypsum - the main crystalline component of black crusts. Note, also, the blistering due to the crystallisation of soluble salts within the stonework. [Pg.249]
