Saltatory motion

It should be noted that the myelin sheath helps to propagate the AP even faster down the neuron. The signal will "jump" from one node of Ranvier to the next (saltatory motion). The distribution of sodium and potassium channels is uneven in the myelinated regions, appropriate to the node and covered areas of the nerve. Should the myelin become stripped from a normally myelinated cell, then the electrical signal cannot... 

Granule motion also occurs at the outer edge of the spindle. A special class occurs from the poles to the equator during late anaphase and telophase in endosperm divisions of several plants (Bajer and Mole-Bajer, 1956). More typical are cytoplasmic saltatory motions. These sudden, rapid (microns per second) translations of granules through several microns are polarized by the spindle in several cell types and then occur mainly radial to the asters and pole-to-pole along the edge of the spindle (reviewed by Rebhun, 1967,1971).

Wong, et al. studied diffusion of probe particles in F-actin networks, using video tracking microscopy to observe particle motion(112). Mean-square displacements were measured directly. They were not diffusive ((Ax) ) was not t. Particle dynamics were heterogeneous. Some particles were completely trapped, never moving far from their starting points other particles alternately were trapped within restricted regions and made rare saltatory jumps.
