Such is the reaction described by Hakanson and Nielsen (25) of the oxidation of o-nitrotoluene with dilute (35%) nitric acid at 190 C to yield (30%) picric acid. On the contrary m- and p-nitrotoluenes yield m-and p nitrobenzoic acids. In addition to picric acid also nitro- and dinitrobenzoic and 3,3-dinitro-salicylic acids were formed. A large quantity of nitrogen was evolved and this led the authors to rationalize the reaction as passing through the formation of a diazo compound. 

Amyloglucosidase and Sanzyme were obtained from Novo-Nordisk Bio-medical Group, Bangalore and Uni-Sankyo Limited, Hyderabad respectively. Locally available cornstarch was used as a source of carbohydrate polymer. Powdered chitin from crab shels was purchased from Sigma Chemical Company, U.S.A. Reducing values were determined by 3,5-dinitro salicylic acid method [6]. Protein content in Amyloglucosidase was estimated by Folin-phenol method [7]. 

Amyloglucosidase was added in a total volume of 20ml of the reaction mixture. 1.0ml of samples were withdrawn at 10,20,30,40 and 50 minute intervals and determined for their reducing values by 3,5-dinitro salicylic acid method. Above experiments were repeated with the native en2yme in the same concentrations for comparison studies (Fig.l)...

In addition to BF4 , other anionic boron complexes, also forming ion-associates with basic dyes, have been applied to determine boron, namely 2,4-dinitro-1,8-naphthalenediol and Brilliant Green (formula 4.26) (toluene, e = 1.0-10 at 637 nm [41 3], 2,6-dihydroxy-benzoic acid, and Malachite Green (chlorobenzene, e = 9.5-10 [5], 2,3-dihydroxy-naphthalene and Crystal Violet (benzene, e = 8.8-10 [44]), mandelic acid, and Malachite Green (benzene, e = 6.5-10 ) [45,46], pyrocatechol derivatives, and Ethyl Violet (toluene, e = 1.05-10 [47,48]. The ion-pair of the salicylate complex of boron with ferroin has also been proposed (CHCI3) [49].
