S Stabilizers

Reduced field current reduces the voltage generated, which may affect the system s stability. [Pg.785]

Both types of mutations have been made in T4 lysozyme. The chosen mutations were Gly 77-Ala, which caused an increase in Tm of 1 °C, and Ala 82-Pro, which increased Tm by 2 °C. The three-dimensional structures of these mutant enzymes were also determined the Ala 82-Pro mutant had a structure essentially identical to the wild type except for the side chain of residue 82 this strongly indicates that the effect on Tm of Ala 82-Pro is indeed due to entropy changes. Such effects are expected to be additive, so even though each mutation makes only a small contribution to increased stability, the combined effect of a number of such mutations should significantly increase a protein s stability. [Pg.357]

Atmospheric stability and mechanical turbulence (important near to the ground) are used to derive the vertical and horizontal dispersion coefficients. Table 45.2 shows Pasquill s stability categories used to derive the coefficients by reference to standard graphs. [Pg.760]

We can get a quantitative idea of benzene s stability by measuring heats of hydrogenation (Section 6.6). Cyclohexene, an isolated alkene, has ff ydrog = -118 kj/mol (-28.2 kcal/mol), and 1,3-cyclohexadiene, a conjugated diene, has A/Chydrog = 230 kj/mol (-55.0 kcal/mol). As noted in Section 14.1, this value for 1,3-cyclohexadiene is a bit less than twice that for cyclohexene because conjugated dienes are more stable than isolated dienes. [Pg.520]

Marqueyrol s Stability Test. 200g samples of double-base powds were heated at 50° under vac in a round bottom Pyrex flask. Every 3—4 days, the vapors were pumped out, collected in, a gasometer over Hg and measured. The test was contd until the powd started to decomp very rapidiy, usually after 1800—2000 days. A curve was then plotted of cc of gas evolved vs days of heating, and the gas was analyzed for C02 and NO. If any liq formed, it was collected, measured and analyzed... [Pg.36]

Technician A s results are worthless when it comes to judging the product s stability and setting a limit on shelf life. The bold circles indicates the batch 1 result obtained by technician B this turns out to be close to the linear regression established for batch 2, suggesting that the two batches degraded at the same rate. The diazonium salt s stability depends on the structure of the aromatic group and above all, of the anion salt. [Pg.287]

Particle Size Measurement. The best way to evaluate an emulsion s stability is probably to measure its particle size distribution. A number of methods are available for droplet size determination (see Sec. VIII.A). Optical microscopy, although a time-consuming technique, is a direct way of measuring droplets larger than 1 pm. Nowadays, laser lightscattering, diffraction, and transmission methods are becoming popular for routine determination of particle size [151, 152],... [Pg.273]

In OIT determinations, the test samples are flushed continuously with oxygen during the course of the measurement [1], This is in contrast to oxygen-uptake measurements that are mostly undertaken in a static oxygen atmosphere (see below). Effects such as dynamic removal of volatile antioxidants in the OIT method can lead to these two methods yielding very different assessments of a polymer formulation s stability [1]. [Pg.393]

The greater the number of attached alkyl groups (i.e., the more substituted the carbon atoms of the double bond), the greater is the alkene s stability. [Pg.281]

Another challenge of the biometric findings comes from examining the taxon s stability (Watson, 2003). Watson examined the stability of the taxon over a three month interval in a sample of undergraduates (N = 465) and found that the DES-T was significantly less stable than measures of personality. For example, the stability of Neuroticism in this study was r =. 83, while the stability of the DES-T was only r =. 62. Bayesian membership had even lower stability (r =. 32), and the dichotomously scored taxon was unstable (r =. 29). The lack of stability raises a question about whether the dissociation taxon is really a product of early traumatic events. In fact, these data imply that the taxon reflects a qualitatively distinct but transient dissociative reaction, rather than a stable pathological experience. [Pg.132]
