S locus receptor kinase

SRK is a transmembrane receptor/kinase that works as a female determinant for selfincompatibility/ self-sterility to prevent inbreeding in Brassica, a flowering plant. Upon self-pollination, the pollen-borne ligand S locus protein 11/SCR interacts with SRK expressed in stigma, which in turn autophosphorylates and promotes Ca -dependent signal transduction that culminates in self-pollen rejection (Murase et al. 2004).
