Ruthenium organometallic compound

Organometallic Compounds. Ruthenium, predominately in the oxidation states 0 and +2, forms numerous mononuclear and polynuclear organometaUic compounds. A few examples of compounds in both higher and lower oxidation states also exist. The chemistry of polynuclear mthenium complexes is extensive and has been reviewed (53—59). 

An example of particular interest is the two-fold introduction of M(CO)n moieties at silicon to give HMPA adducts of organometallic analogues of silaallene. It has been shown that this reaction proceeds through the dichlorosilylene complex as intermediate. Both the iron 22 and ruthenium 23 compound and also the bimetallic complex 24 are accessible.

Second, as a logical development of the first approach, polyphosphazenes have been synthesized that bear phosphine units connected to aryloxy side groups (37). The phosphine units bind organometallic compounds, such as those of iron, cobalt, osmium, or ruthenium (38). In several cases, the catalytic activity of the metal is retained in the macromolecular system (39). A similar binding of transition metals has been accomplished through nido carboranyl units linked to a polyphosphazene chain (40).

In some instances, a long hydrocarbon chain can be attached to an organometallic compound, e.g., ruthenium trisbypyridyl or ferrocene, thus making a new surfactant which can be readily used to form micelles or can be incorporated into conventional micelles (4, 5). A similar lipase/ruthenium combination of an enzyme with an organometallic compound was employed to resolve racemates of allylic alcohols to allylic acetates of high optical purity and more than 80% yield in the presence of an acyl donor (Lee, 2000). 

Organometallic compounds often show unique catalytic properties that may also allow their use as potential drug candidates. The cyclopentadienyl-ruthenium carbonyl catalyst 75, that bears a quinoline-based bidentate ligand, was found to be a potent inhibitor of certain protein kinases <2006AGE1504>.

Although B12 seems to be a complicated biomolecule, it is a very versatile carrier for robust organometallic compounds for various purposes. Our finding implies to use, e.g., ruthenium-based agents along the same line, concealing it behind the Bi2 framework and release in the intracellular space. 

The first organometallic compound known for ruthenium, (t -C5H5)2Ru, and the second sandwich compound to be made was isolated shortly after the recognition of the sandwich structure of Fe(C5H5)2 by interaction of Ru(acac)3 with CpMgBr. 

There have been a number of reports of indirect coupling constants to carbon in organometallic compounds (see Tables XXXI and XXXII). Several trends are discernible. For transition metal complexes, the trends in V(i3C—M—3ip) and (i C—M— H) appear to follow those observed for V( P—M— H) and V( P—M— P).
