An earth reconnaissance satellite reports a drought in Russia. Government experts estimate that Russian wheat production probably will be down by 50 million bushels. Nevertheless, operation experience of WWER nuclear power plants, new national and international safety standards and changes in economy of Russia govern the necessity of development of advanced nuclear power plants. New reactors of WWER type shall possess the increased characteristics of safety and economical efficiency, be more convenient for operation and maintenance.

Czechoslovakia was soon to succumb to force, obviously directed from Russia. Here we were trying to convict the Farben leaders of aggressive war under a statute enacted by four governing powers — one of which was itself engaged in aggressive acts at the very time the trial was in progress ... 

Six weeks later the 22-year-old Mendeleev won an appointment at the university as a privat-docent, a kind of unsalaried assistant professor who received part of the fees paid by his students. During the mid-nineteenth century, Russia was somewhat backward scientifically, so Mendeleev had no contact with leading chemists. However, in 1859 he got a government grant to pursue further studies in France and Germany. On the advice of his friend, the chemist and composer Alexsandr Borodin, he went first to Paris, where he studied...
