There are several systems that define the quality and uniformity of natural mbber. One system of grading natural mbber is based on form and visual observation of color and cleanliness. This is known as the International Natural Rubber Specification. The principal types and grades are as follows. There are five other types of mbber classified by this system and many other grades not Hsted here. [Pg.231]

Rubber-covered fan temperatures are usually limited to 130-180°F again these limitations are a function of gas atmosphere and the specific rubber compound. [Pg.535]

Table 2.6 summarises the main techniques and standards used for the determination of specific rubber components. ISO 9924-1 (2000) describes the use of TGA for the determination of the composition of butadiene, ethylene-propylene, butyl, isoprene and SBR rubbers. [Pg.34]

From a theoretical point of view, the equilibrium modulus very probably gives the best characterization of a cured rubber. This is due to the relationship between this macroscopic quantity and the molecular structure of the network. Therefore, the determination of the equilibrium modulus has been the subject of many investigations (e.g. 1-9). For just a few specific rubbers, the determination of the equilibrium modulus is relatively easy. The best example is provided by polydimethylsiloxane vulcanizates, which exhibit practically no prolonged relaxations (8, 9). However, the networks of most synthetic rubbers, including natural rubber, usually show very persistent relaxations which impede a close approach to the equilibrium condition (1-8). [Pg.517]

The earliest courses which considered polymeric materials dealt with them on an empirical basis, with recipes directing additions of specified amounts or treatments of materials being typical rather than the exception. These early courses concentrated on adhesives, oils and coatings, resins, textiles, paper and pulp and natural rubber. Specific examples are given in the following sections. [Pg.125]

In ISO TC 45, Rubber and Rubber Products, a decision was made recently to structure test method standards into a number of parts so that the requirements for different purposes are more clearly separated. The idea was that the first part for a given property group would be a guide and subsequent parts would be specific test methods, but it remains to be seen how this develops in practice. A guide in ISO is distinguished by giving advice as to how to test without being mandatory. [Pg.30]

Still, considerable uncertainties exist with regard to the different kinds of nonexhaust PM emissions. In recent studies tyre abrasion, initially estimated to make up to 10% of total traffic PM10 contribution, has been shown with a new method for analysing specific rubber components to have much lower impact [62]. Accordingly, most tyre particles have aerodynamic diameters above 10 pm and their contribution to PM10 is 0.5 mass% at maximum. [Pg.211]

The above discussion indicates that synthesized CLSP with phenyl framing groups are characterized by high thermal oxidative stability and easy processing to articles. That is why these substances we-re suggested for production of specific rubbers [12],... [Pg.244]

As in-house, rubber specific databases are developed for LC-MS, the inclusion of this technique into the fingerprinting process will complement GC-MS data by contributing information on thermally labile and relatively large (e.g. oligomeric) potential migrants. This has been demonstrated recently in a paper by Sidwell, which describes how LC-MS was used to provide additional information on the species present in an ether extract of a food contact ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. [Pg.286]

Some of the recent rubber specific research projects funded by the Food Standards Agency and, prior to its existence, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, are listed below. Copies of the reports issued at the completion of these projects are available from the Food Standard Agency s library (at Aviation House, 125 Kingsway, London WC2B 6NH) ... [Pg.299]
