Rouse method

The film tube is collapsed within a V-shaped frame of rollers and is nipped at the end of the frame to trap the air within the bubble. The nip roUs also draw the film away from the die. The draw rate is controlled to balance the physical properties with the transverse properties achieved by the blow draw ratio. The tube may be wound as such or may be sHt and wound as a single-film layer onto one or more roUs. The tube may also be direcdy processed into bags. The blown film method is used principally to produce polyethylene film. It has occasionally been used for polypropylene, poly(ethylene terephthalate), vinyls, nylon, and other polymers. [Pg.380]

Mechanical Cake Removal. This method is used in the American version of the dynamic filter described under cross-flow filtration with rotating elements, where turbine-type rotors are used to limit the cake thickness at low speeds. The Exxflow filter, introduced in the United Kingdom, is described in more detail under cross-flow filtration in porous pipes. It uses, among other means, a roUer cleaning system which periodically roUs over a curtain of flexible pipes and dislodges any cake on the inside of the pipes. The cake is then flushed out of the curtain by the internal flow. [Pg.409]

In the calendering method, a PVC compound which contains plasticizers (qv) (60—120 phr), pigments (qv) (0—10 phr), fillers (qv) (20—60 phr), stabilizers (10—30 phr), and other additives, is kneaded with calender roUs at 150—200°C, followed by extmsion between clearance-adjusted roUs for bonding onto the substrate. This method is employed for products with thick PVC layers, ie, of 0.05—0.75 mm thickness. The main plasticizer used is di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DOP). For filler to reduce cost, calcium carbonate is mainly used. A woven or knit fabric made of cotton, rayon, nylon, polyester, and their blend fiber is used as substrate. For foamed vinyl-coated fabrics, the bonded materials are heated in an oven to decompose the foam-blowing... [Pg.92]

The type of varnish used in the process depends on the kraft paper manufacturer and basis weight of the papers the machine, temperature, and control (scraper bars, squeeze roUs) used the method of cutting the paper to size the laminate being produced (post-forming or regular) and the press-cure cycle (see Laminated materials, plastic). [Pg.306]

Tremendous advances have been made in the design and efficiency of roU refiners. The methods currently used for casting the roUs have resulted in machines capable of very high output and consistent performance. The efficiency of the newer refiners has also been improved by hydrauHc control of the pressure between the roUs and thermostatic control of cooling water to the roUs. [Pg.95]

Triglycerides are important constituents of resin. In softwood, the triglycerides account for 20—40% of total resin content, and in hardwood, 40—50%. The paper industry uses the term pitch for resins that create problems in paper machines. Traditionally, pitch is controlled or reduced by aging the wood, by use of chemicals to avoid deposits on the roUs, or by intensive washing of the pulp. AH these methods add to the cost of paper production. An alternative is to add a Upase to the pulp in a reaction lasting about one hour with the help of agitation. Results from Japanese paper mills show substantial... [Pg.299]

The polymer/SWCNT composites can be used as Scaffolds in tissue engineering. The donor-acceptor interactions can be used to assemble thin polymer/SWCNT films stepwise. This method also can be expended to more thermally and oxidatively stable polymer systems. For example, the P4VP/SWCNT films can be used as scaffolds for the synthesis of novel hybrid structures (Correa-Duaite et al., 2004). The polyethyl-enimine (PEI)-SWCNTs composites were used as a substrate for cultured neurons, and promoted neurite outgrowth and branching (Rouse et al., 2004). Correa-Duarte et al. (2004 Landi et al., 2005) reported that 3D-MWCNT-based networks are ideal candidates for scaffolds/matrices in tissue engineering. [Pg.211]
