Guaifenesin (Guaiacol glyceryl ether, 3-(2-Methoxyphenoxy)-l,2-propanediol) is an expectorant that is found in cough medicines such as Actifed and Robitussin. U.S. 4,390,732 (to Degussa) describes preparation of the API and several of its precursors. Estimate the cost of production of the API.
